Effective Date: 13 June 2025

Applies to: All international orders shipped from the United States to destinations outside the USA.

1. Introduction

At The Teach Your Class Off Collection. We are committed to providing our international customers with a seamless shopping experience. As a USA-based business that offers worldwide shipping, we want to ensure you understand the customs duties, taxes, and import regulations that may apply to your order when it crosses international borders.

Please note: that customs duties, taxes, and other charges are not included in your purchase or shipping cost at checkout, and it is the responsibility of the buyer to ensure these are paid when required.

2. Customs Duties, Taxes, and Import Fees

When you order goods from us, customs duties, taxes, and import fees may be levied by your country’s customs agency upon arrival. These fees are usually calculated based on the value of the goods and shipping charges.

Clear Disclaimer: "Buyers Are Responsible for Customs Fees"

Buyers are fully responsible for any customs duties, taxes, VAT, brokerage fees, or other import charges imposed by their country.

These charges are not included in the cost of your items or shipping fees and must be paid directly to the customs office or delivery carrier handling your shipment. Please be aware that customs fees and import taxes are assessed by your country, not by us.

3. Check Your Country's Import Rules Before Ordering

Customs duties and taxes can vary greatly from country to country. It’s essential to be aware of your country’s import rules and import tax limits before you place an order.

We highly recommend that you:

  • Research the duty-free threshold (or de minimis value) in your country. Many countries allow small shipments to enter without import taxes if the value is below a certain threshold (e.g., USD $50, EUR €22).
  • Check with your local customs office or a customs broker for an estimate of applicable duties, taxes, and other fees.
  • Be aware of any product-specific restrictions or prohibitions in your country. Certain items, such as electronics, cosmetics, or food, may be subject to extra regulations, documentation, or higher duties.

Useful resources for customs information:

4. Declared Value and Customs Documentation

To comply with international shipping regulations, we accurately declare the value of the goods on all customs forms.

We Do Not Mark Packages as "Gifts" or Undervalue Shipments

It is illegal to falsify customs documents. Therefore, we do not under-declare the value of goods or mark items as "gifts." This is considered customs fraud and can result in fines, delayed shipments, or confiscation of goods.

  • Declared value: The declared value on the customs form will reflect the full purchase price (excluding shipping costs).
  • Detailed description: We will provide a description of the goods, including a harmonized tariff code (HS code) if required.
  • Invoice/Receipt: We may include a copy of your invoice or receipt with your shipment to assist in the customs clearance process.

5. Customs Processing Delays and Additional Charges

While we strive to ensure that your order arrives in a timely manner, customs processing times can vary significantly depending on the destination country, the type of product, and the volume of shipments at the time of year.

Possible Delays:

  • Customs inspections: Some shipments may be selected for inspection by local customs authorities, which can cause delays.
  • Peak shipping seasons: High-demand periods (e.g., holidays, special events) may lead to additional delays.
  • Missing or incomplete documentation: If customs documents are incorrect or incomplete, this can cause a hold-up in processing.
  • Unusual shipping circumstances: This includes restricted items or issues with product labeling.

Customs fees and handling charges may also apply, and are usually paid directly to the delivery carrier or customs office. We cannot control these charges, and they are outside of our responsibility.

6. What Happens if You Refuse to Pay Customs Duties?

If you decide not to pay the required customs duties, taxes, or fees, the following may occur:

  • Return to Sender: The shipment may be returned to us or abandoned at customs, and you may not receive a refund for the original shipping fees or return charges.
  • Seizure or Confiscation: In some countries, failure to pay duties or taxes may result in seizure of the goods by customs authorities.
  • Loss of Goods: If the goods are returned, we may only refund the cost of the items, not the shipping or any fees associated with the return.

Please note that refusing delivery does not exempt you from customs charges. Customs fees are still your responsibility, regardless of whether you accept the delivery or not.

7. Shipping Carrier and Customs Handling

We work with trusted global carriers such as USPS for international shipments. Each carrier has its own procedure for handling customs clearance.

Shipping with USPS or International Postal Services:

  • USPS: Shipments sent via USPS may be handed over to your local postal service (e.g., Royal Mail in the UK, Canada Post, etc.) for final delivery.
  • Customs clearance: In many cases, postal services do not handle customs duties directly and will notify you separately to pay any fees before delivery.

8. Returns and Exchanges for International Orders

Unfortunately, international orders are subject to different return and exchange policies. Due to the cost of shipping internationally and potential customs issues, we do not accept returns for international orders unless the product is defective, damaged, or not as described.

If a return is approved, you may be responsible for:

  • Return shipping charges
  • Any applicable customs duties on the return
  • Shipping fees to re-send the product to you

For more details, please refer to our Return and Exchange Policy on the website.

9. Glossary of Key Terms

To help clarify some of the terminology, here are some key terms that relate to customs and import duties:

  • Customs Duties: Taxes imposed by a government on goods imported into the country.
  • VAT (Value-Added Tax): A consumption tax placed on a product whenever value is added at each stage of production or distribution.
  • HS Code (Harmonized System Code): A standardized numerical method of classifying traded products. Used by customs agencies for identifying goods.
